GE Appliances recalls electric cooktops (Monogram included) due to burn hazard (2024)

U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall involving knob-control electric radiant cooktops, model GE JP3030, because a burner can stay on even after the knob is turned to “OFF,” creating a burn hazard.

  • Recall date: November 30, 2023
  • Units: About 11,000
  • Remedy: Repair (free replacement burner knob assembly installation)
  • Recall number: 24-033

What’s the hazard?

On some units manufactured July 2022 through September 2022, burner knob stems can be misaligned and/or knob components can fracture. As a result, a burner may remain powered after use, even when the control is set to “OFF.”

Important detail: In this condition, the “On” indicator light may not illuminate, but the corresponding “Hot Cooktop” light can remain illuminated until power to the cooktop is shut off at the breaker.

What to do right now

  • Contact GE Appliances to arrange free installation of a replacement burner knob assembly.
  • When the cooktop is not in use, turn the unit off at the circuit breaker.
  • Do not leave flammable items or empty cookware on or near the cooktop.
