Expands Recall of Thermador® Built-In Ovens Due to Fire Hazard

Overview

This safety recall expansion applies to certain Thermador® built-in double ovens. A manufacturing issue can leave gaps in the oven insulation, which may allow excess heat buildup. When the oven is used in self-clean mode, the added heat can overheat nearby cabinetry, creating a fire risk.

  • Recall date: January 21, 2010
  • Remedy: Inspection (and free repair if needed)
  • Units affected: About 37,000
  • Originally announced: June 2007

What’s the safety issue?

Some ovens may have insulation gaps where overheating can occur. During self-cleaning, temperatures rise significantly, and the additional heat may transfer to adjacent cabinets, potentially causing cabinet damage or fire.

What to do right now

  • Stop using the self-cleaning feature immediately.
  • You may continue normal cooking use, but do not run self-clean until the unit has been inspected.
  • Contact the manufacturer to schedule an inspection. If an issue is found, the repair is provided at no cost.

FAQ

Can I still use my oven for regular baking/roasting?
Yes, regular cooking use may be possible, but you should avoid self-clean mode until the oven is inspected.

Is this a replacement recall?
No. The remedy is inspection, with a free repair if necessary.

Where exactly is “FD8403–FD8701”?
It’s part of the serial information printed on the underside of the control panel. If your serial/FD falls within that range and your model matches, your oven may be included.

Why is self-clean the main concern?
Self-cleaning operates at very high temperatures, which can increase heat buildup and raise the risk of overheating near cabinets if insulation gaps are present.
